Breaking up (a blog) is hard to do... (at least if you are a perfectionist)
As I wrote back in December, I've been considering breaking this blog into a series of sites, and I've actually decided to go ahead and starting doing that. I've already moved my VoIP-related writing over to "Disruptive Telephony". Next comes the social media writing. However, it all just is a heck of a lot of work that I have to try to fit in between everything else.

And if I would just suck it up and use the basic templates that TypePad, Wordpress, etc., use, it would probably be a whole lot easier... but of course, I can't. They don't work for me. So instead I have to do this three-column layout deal which is great and cool... but means extra work since I have to hack TypePad's Advanced templates. (With again MANY thanks to TypepadHacks.org!) So it's a longer slower process that winds up being something I try to fit into the wee hours of the night. Hopefully I'm getting closer, though... we'll see soon.

True

I've been trying to ween off using LJ for essay format posting since I am friends-only and, mostly, the friends don't care what I think about things. They read for the personal journal aspect of it. Because it is friends-only, the RSS feed is essentially useless to non-cookie savy folks.

Wordpress has worked well for me so far with a basic import from the LJ XML export. I still have a lot of cleanup to do of the shorter one liner content typically found in my LJ.

The key benefit of LJ is comment control and the point, click, forget of it all. I don't think I'll ever give up on it for that reason.
