Bruce Schneier in Wired News: "Steal This Wi-Fi" (Why he runs an open WiFi network) Over in Wired News yesterday there was a fascinating article from top security researcher Bruce Schneier called:"Steal This Wi-Fi". Schneier talks about why he doesn't secure his home network. Here's the intro:
Whenever I talk or write about my own security setup, the one thing that surprises people -- and attracts the most criticism -- is the fact that I run an open wireless network at home. There's no password. There's no encryption. Anyone with wireless capability who can see my network can use it to access the internet. To me, it's basic politeness. Providing internet access to guests is kind of like providing heat and electricity, or a hot cup of tea. But to some observers, it's both wrong and dangerous. He goes on to talk more about it and why you might be better off. I'll choose to disagree - and keep my home WiFi network secured - but it's an interesting piece from someone well-known within security circles.
